Rangers fans react as David Bates leaves Ibrox
David Bates has officially left Rangers to join up with new club Hamburg later in the summer, and fans have flocked onto Twitter to wish him all the best.
The 21-year-old enforcer announced in April that he was joining Hamburg in a four-year deal, with his Ibrox contract expiring at the end of May.
He said that it was too good an opportunity to turn down, although he was criticised by caretaker manager Graeme Murty for rejecting a new Rangers contract.
Talking in the Scottish Sun, Murty said: “Take emotion out of the situation, take the fact he is a Rangers supporter out of the situation, there is a load of money on the table.
“We offered him a contract we felt was good enough to see him stay.
“I am disappointed more than surprised that he hasn’t accepted it.”
Bates sent a Twitter message to Rangers fans on Friday, thanking them and the club for everything and wishing them all the best for the future.
And Rangers fans responded, wishing him all the best in his German adventure.
One fan said it was a class comment and that he was underrated at Rangers, while another said it was a shame the club hadn’t got its house in order and been able to convince him to stay.
