‘I’ll pay your wages’ – Rangers fans urge first-team star to stay after reported English interest
Rangers defender James Tavernier could be the target of a transfer swoop in the January transfer window, according to a report – and fans on Twitter really don’t want to let the full-back leave.
The Daily Mail claims that English Championship sides Sunderland and Reading are keeping tabs on Tavernier with a view to a move next month when the transfer window opens.
Tavernier has been a star in the first-team for the Ibrox side since moving to Glasgow in 2015 and has made 120 appearances, scoring 21 times, since signing from Wigan.
Fans are that desperate for Tavernier to stay one fan has even joked that he’ll “pay his wages.”
Here are some of their comments on Twitter
Tavernier has started almost every game this season for the Gers and is the undisputed first-choice at right-back.
The former Newcastle defender is an important part of Graeme Murty’s first-team squad and unless a ridiculous bid comes in for him it’s unlikely Rangers will sell.
With only Lee Hodson as cover, Rangers would need to bring in a quality replacement and with Tavernier only recently turning 26, the right-back is just hitting his peak years.
Tavernier has had spells with Newcastle United, Rotherham United, Carlisle United, Wigan Athletic, Bristol City, Sheffield Wednesday, MK Dos and Shrewsbury Town.
In other Rangers news, Gers fans tore into this one player for his performance against Motherwell.
