‘Wage thief’, ‘Bye bye’ – Rangers fans destroy senior star after injury blow v Celtic
Rangers defender Bruno Alves suffered yet another injury setback since joining the Ibrox giants after limping out of Saturday’s Old Firm clash against Celtic after only 17 minutes with a calf injury.
The Portuguese international missed the first Old Firm in September through injury and has suffered a series of niggly problems since arriving in Scotland.
The Rangers supporters were furious to see their stand-in captain pull up injured in the 0-0 draw and throw in the towel so early in the game and forcing 21-year-old David Bates into action from the bench – with many of them accusing the senior Ibrox star of “bottling it.”
Here are some of their comments on Twitter:
The 94-times capped defender came to Ibrox with a big reputation after winning Euro 2016 with his country but has struggled to impress or play any consistent run of games without injury.
With the transfer window set to open in a few days, Rangers fans seem to be happy to let the senior star move on and free up his undoubtedly sizeable wages.
The 36-year-old has made 17 appearances so far this season but his brief cameo at Celtic Park could prove to be his final game for the Ibrox giants.
Alves joined Rangers on a free transfer from Serie A side Cagliari in the summer.
