Blown every theory to shreds: Rangers fans react as tycoon makes offer
Rangers’ chairman Dave King has launched a mandatory offer for the outstanding shares in the club to comply with the Takeover Panel’s decision – and Gers fans are delighted to see the South African-based tycoon leave Celtic fans speechless.
The panel originally decided that a formal takeover should have been triggered after the Three Bears group led by King secured more than 30 per cent of the voting rights in Rangers.
The offer document released on Friday night confirms that the bid would be funded “using the receipt of dividends to be declared on April 4 amounting to £13,074,842.90.
Gers fans were looking forward to hearing Celtic fans explain how it was fake news after they insisted King had no money – with one saying it must be “soul destroying” for Hoops fans.
Here are some of their comments on Twitter:
King came to power at Ibrox in early 2015 after forcing Mike Ashley’s hand-picked board from the Blue Room at Ibrox following a EGM.
The South African-based businessman had argued in court that he shouldn’t be liable for an offer for the outstanding shares but was ordered by the Court of Session to make the 20p per share offer before end of play on Friday.
The Gers chairman waited until the very last moment to confirm details of his bid – one Celtic fans insisted wouldn’t be made although it is unlikely many will accept King’s offer with the Gers shares typically trading at 7p above the mandatory offer price.
