Rangers fans will be relieved after veteran defender comments spell end at Ibrox
COMMENT
Veteran defender Russell Martin has hinted that his spell at Ibrox will be his only involvement with the Light Blues as his loan comes to an end – and Gers fans will surely be relieved that the 32-year-old won’t be back in Glasgow next season.
Martin spent six months at Ibrox after joining in January on loan but disappointed during his time in Scotland as the Light Blues struggled to a third-place finish in the Scottish Premiership.
The former Norwich captain has told The Argus that he’ll consider all his options this summer but it doesn’t appear as though a return to Ibrox is on the cards for the Scotland international.
Martin was a constant in the starting XI after moving to Ibrox on loan but his performances were nowhere near good enough at the heart of defence as the Light Blues shipped far too many goals over the second-half of the season.
It’s unlikely that Martin has much of a future at Carrow Road either so it could very well be a long summer for the 32-year-old as he tries to find a new club – although he does have the benefit of having one-year left on his Norwich contract.
With the Gers crying out for new defenders, Martin had a fantastic chance to win a permanent move to Ibrox but after his performances in his short spell with the Light Blues, the chances of that happening now are incredibly small.
