Rangers give fitness update on first-team star who missed final weeks of season

Rangers have given an update on defender Declan John’s fitness after the defender missed the final few weeks of the season as they showed the defender back training with Ryan Giggs’ Wales side in Los Angeles.

Wales are due to take on Mexico in a friendly as John was shown going through his paces on the Gers’ official Twitter account as the Welsh prepared to bring the curtain down on the season.

John suffered a broken hand after a fall and missed the Gers’ final three games of the season but will be hoping to get a run out against El Tri before returning to Scotland to get to work under new manager Steven Gerrard.

After joining the Gers on loan from Cardiff City on deadline day in August last year, John went on to make the left-back berth his own before agreeing a permanent switch in January.

Football Insider verdict:

Gers fans will definitely be happy to see John is back fully fit and playing again with a little over a week before Steven Gerrard takes the reins. The left-back will be an important part of Gerrard’s side next season and his link-up play with Jamie Murphy going forward last season was a regular feature of Gers attacks. With the Light Blues getting back to competitive action on July 12th, John won’t have much time for a rest before returning for pre-season training although missing the final few games of the season will have given the 22-year-old a chance to get a breather and recharge his batteries a little. If John can tighten up defensively next season he can be a really crucial figure for the Light Blues as they try to end Celtic’s recent dominance of Scottish football and stop them from winning a seventh successive Scottish Premiership title.
