Kieran Maguire: There’s turmoil behind the scenes at Rangers amid latest on £13m mission
Club 1872’s aim to buy all of Dave King’s £13million worth of Rangers shares takes place amid serious tensions behind the scenes.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest development in the transfer of power.
Club 1872 announced the purchase of another 2.25m shares last Tuesday (12 April) at a price of £450,000.
The move makes them the sixth-largest shareholder in the club with a 5.13 per cent stake.
Club 1872 aim to buy former Ibrox chairman King’s remaining 15.13 per cent of the club, with the total value of the arrangement worth £13m.
Rangers accused Club 1872 of launching a “propaganda war” in an extraordinary statement last month (22 March).
Maguire analysed the internal tensions with the Glasgow Giants’ corridors of power.
“Clearly, there are tensions at board level,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“That has been the case even before this investment with Club 1872.
“You have one hostile shareholder who has transferred the shares to another hostile shareholder.
“So the overall balance in terms of those who want the status quo and those who want change has itself not altered.
“There is little to be gained from criticising shareholders. Everyone wants to work in an environment where everyone is rowing in the same direction.
“If that is not the case, you’re not as likely to perform well in your job.”

King remains Rangers’ largest individual shareholder, and he and Club 1872 are two of 11 major investors in the club.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side beat Celtic2-1 in extra time yesterday (17 April) to reach the final of the Scottish Cup.
