Rangers issue emphatic response to PL club after midfielder bid – report
By Harvey Byrne
Rangers have issued Hull with an emphatic hands off response for midfielder Josh Windass, according to a report.
Sports website HITC claims the Scottish giants have rejected a bid from the Tigers with Mark Warburton keen to keep hold of the 23-year-old at the club.
It is believed that the Premier League side are looking to bolster their midfield ranks following the departure of Jake Livermore and potential exit of Robert Snodgrass.
They have identified Windass, who is the son of Hull legend and club ambassador Dean Windass.
The attacking midfielder has impressed since making the move from League Two outfit Accrington in the summer to Ibrox.
The player has featured in 16 encounters in all competitions for Rangers, bringing a return of one goals and three assists.
However, with his position at the club and a three-year contract left he may be out of Hull’s price range.
The Tigers are one of the lowest spenders in the Premier League with current owner Assem Allam looking to sell the club.
Hull also look destined for the Championship next season, meaning that Windass may favour staying with Rangers as they look to secure Europa League qualification next season.
Football Insider verdict:
Rangers fans must hope father Dean stays out of this saga if a bid has in fact been rejected by Hull for his son. The now 47-year-old is a hero at the club and without his influence you would think it would be a no-brainer for Josh to stay in Glasgow. Rangers are currently a progressive club, while Hull are only going backwards under the stewardship of Allam. Now, fortunately for supporters the club seems keen to keep hold of the young asset, but if he starts having words put into his ears about a move then the Ibrox club won’t be able to do anything to stop him from leaving.
