‘We didn’t play that well’ – Windass explains proudest moment of Rangers career
Rangers attacker Josh Windass thinks his hat-trick for the Gers against Hamilton was his most enjoyable moment of his Ibrox career so far.
Windass hit the net three times in the 5-3 win over Hamilton in the Scottish Premiership earlier this year and picked it as the stand out moment following his move from Accrington in 2016.
The 24-year-old admitted it was “nice” to hit a treble despite the Gers not playing well against Hamilton.
“Yeah, we actually won 5-3 so we didn’t play that well but to score three goals at any time is nice so, yeah, I enjoyed it,” Windass told Sky Sports’ Soccer AM, when asked if it was his proudest moment for the Light Blues.
Windass has scored 17 times this season so far for the Gers, with 16 of his goals coming since Graeme Murty took the reins in October, and is level with Alfredo Morelos as the club’s top goalscorer for the campaign.
The former Accrington attacker was the subject of a number of bids in the January transfer window before extending his Ibrox contract until 2021.
Football Insider verdict:
With a Scottish Cup semi-final on the horizon, Windass will be hoping to have a new moment to top scoring a hat-trick if the Gers can get their hands on the trophy in May. After a disappointing first season in Glasgow, Windass has been a huge threat in front of goal for Graeme Murty’s side and will surely find himself in the running for the player of the year awards at the end of the season. Windass scored an earlier hat-trick this season – against Fraserburgh in the Scottish Cup – but getting a league hat-trick will no doubt mean that little bit more.
