Medical expert: Rangers may have taken ‘special measures’ with Ryan Kent

Rangers may have taken “special measures” to protect Ryan Kent for the Europa League clash with Red Star Belgrade tonight (17 March).

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Kent, 25, came off worse in a 50-50 challenge and was helped off in the 3-0 Scottish Cup triumph against Dundee on Sunday (13 March).

Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst told the Glasgow Times after the game: “He is fine, I don’t think it was anything special.”

Dinnery insists that the winger will be fit to play in the last-16 second leg tonight and that Rangers will have ticked every box to protect him.

“I think this was just an impact problem with a little bit of bruising,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“It may be painful and they may possibly have taken one or two special measures to protect him in the immediate aftermath.

“He was lined up to come off anyway. He has played a high number of minutes since returning after the winter break.

“They were winning 2-0 at the time he came off and Van Bronckhorst probably thought he had the game done and dusted.

“I wouldn’t expect it to have an impact on his availability or his performance, or indeed the training sessions in the build-up to that game.”

Kent has scored twice and laid on 15 assists in 33 appearances in 2021-22.

Van Bronckhorst’s side go into the game in Belgrade with a 3-0 aggregate lead.
