Rangers may replace Alfredo Morelos with ‘elite’ striker after update from England – Hutton
Alan Hutton has suggested Rangers could target an “elite” striker to replace Alfredo Morelos this summer amid links to Sunderland’s Ross Stewart.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit admitted the 25-year-old Scotland international does not fit the “usual profile” of an Ibrox centre-forward.
The Northern Echo (13 June) claim the Light Blues have made Stewart their number one target if Morelos leaves this summer.

The Colombian hitman is out of contract next summer, meaning the Gers may be forced to cash in this window.
However, Hutton suggested Giovanni van Bronckhorst may set his sights on a striker proven at a higher level than Stewart to fill the void.
Asked if he thought Rangers would target a higher calibre of striker if Morelos leaves, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Possibly. You’re going for Champions League football, that’s how high the bar is at this moment in time.
“Can he play to that level? We’re unsure. Of course, he was outstanding in League One but we’re talking about elite level. Only time will tell if he can reach those heights.
“I’m pretty sure Giovanni van Bronckhorst will have sights on a few different players. Stewart is a particular type of number nine. He’s a big guy, he’s not the usual profile that Rangers go for.
“So they might look to bring in another type of attacking threat as well.”

Morelos scored 19 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions during the 2021/22 campaign.
Meanwhile, Stewart netted 26 in 49 league and play-off games to fire Sunderland to promotion from League One.
