Rangers mocked by pundit after Philippe Clement loses to St Mirren

Rangers and Philippe Clement were mocked online by one pundit following a shock 2-0 defeat to St Mirren on Saturday.

The Gers were given the perfect opportunity to close the gap on their Old Firm rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, having fallen to defeat against Hibernian earlier on 22 February.

Brendan Rodgers was furious as Daizen Maeda saw his goal chalked off for Celtic, with Keith Hackett suggesting to Football Insider that the officials had “guessed”, but this opened the door for the Light Blues.

Despite this, Clement’s side were unable to take advantage, with goals from Mikael Mandron and Toyosi Olusanya sinking any remaining hope of the title challenge still being alive.

The Rangers boss now looks to be on the verge of being sacked by Patrick Stewart, but one pundit has found a funny side to the embarrassing defeat.

Rangers and Philippe Clement trolled by Mick McCarthy meme

Sharing the image of Rangers‘ full-time score against St Mirren, Tam McManus posted a well-known video of Mick McCarthy being asked if things can “go on like this”, to which he replies: “It can.”

During his time at Ibrox, Clement has quickly gone from zero to hero, having nearly beaten the Hoops to the Scottish Premiership title last season as well as lifting the Scottish League Cup in his first campaign.

Those hopes have quickly died a death, with the only remaining chance of silverware this season coming from the Europa League, and qualification sees them come up against Fenerbahce.

Patrick Stewart left with no other choice over Philippe Clement

Even with the Europe success in mind, it seems just a matter of time before the Gers part ways with the manager.

Nearly all supporters were calling for Clement’s head following the utterly embarrassing defeat to Queen’s Park in the Scottish Cup, being knocked out in front of their home fans.

Things were finally starting to look up for the 55-time league-winning side, with the San Francisco 49ers attempting to complete a Rangers takeover, but all the hope for this season has vanished.

Patrick Stewart has continued to stand by his manager, even when the Union Bears decided to walk out of Ibrox during a game, but the time has come to make the difficult decision.
