Graeme Murty must unleash Rangers 22-year-old after awful defeat v Hibernian
COMMENT
Rangers striker Jason Cummings again started on the bench for the Light Blues on Saturday as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Hibernian – but Gers boss Graeme Murty needs to let the striker loose to score instead of cameos off the bench.
Cummings, 22, joined the action after 70 minutes as the Ibrox side were chasing the game but couldn’t make any major impact from the bench.
While Cummings is probably a little off the pace, the same can be said for Sean Goss and Jamie Murphy although both have been regular starters since arriving at Ibrox last month.
Everyone knows what Cummings brings to the side and unless the striker is given a chance to play regularly with his new team-mates it will only take that bit longer for him to click and start hitting the net on a consistent basis.
With the possibility – albeit a narrow one – that Alfredo Morelos could still leave before the end of this month, the Gers need to have Cummings firing on all cylinders just in case a bid the Gers find too hard to turn down does arrive in the next three-and-a-half weeks.
He’s not going to be the answer to all of Rangers’ problems but he could definitely take some of the weight off Morelos’ shoulders as the side’s main goalscoring threat.
