Rangers news: Jack Simpson ‘has to leave’ after Ibrox source’s transfer update – pundit
Jack Simpson has to leave Rangers in the summer, according to Alan Hutton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Gers full-back and Rangers TV pundit claimed Simpson “missed a trick” by not leaving Ibrox in January.
A recruitment source told Football Insider today (10 March) that Birmingham City are lining up a move for the defender after failing in a bid on deadline day in January.
Simpson moved to Ibrox in January 2021 but has played just 13 times for the club including just two appearances – both in the Scottish Cup – under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
“I always think out of side, out of mind,” Hutton told Football Insider‘s Alan Hutton.
“If you’re not even in the matchday squads, training Monday to Friday, I’ve been in that situation myself people will question ‘Well, you haven’t played a game in January so what level are you?’
“There are other people that come to the fore and are further up the line then you. It’s always going to be difficult.
“I know he’ll be training hard and looking after himself with a view to the summer.
“It doesn’t help anybody, the player or Rangers, for him to sit there and do nothing for all those months.
“He’s probably missed a trick in not getting out in January because you don’t know how that can change your career path. He could’ve come back to Rangers as a better player or his fee could go up, they sell him and it’s best for both parties.
“It’s always better when you can go out and play games because it doesn’t help anybody just sitting and training with no games.

“He has to move in the summer if they can’t get the fee they want it might be a loan. He’s going to have to go out somewhere and play to build his reputation up.
“He’s a good player but it’s just not worked at Rangers so it’s about getting back to what he does best and playing regularly.”
In other news, a medical guru has issued a ‘massive gamble’ claim after an Aaron Ramsey update from Rangers.
