Rangers news: McLeish issues ‘incredible’ Aaron Ramsey verdict after Sky reveal

Alex McLeish has urged Aaron Ramsey to “accelerate” his quest for fitness with Rangers facing an “incredible” run-in.

The former Gers boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 31-year-old could be “key” to retaining the Scottish Premiership title under the noses of league leaders Celtic.

Ramsey has played just 173 minutes for Rangers since joining the Glasgow giants on loan in January.

Speaking to Sky Sports (18 March), the Wales international revealed he is “feeling good” after recovering from minor injury problems.

The former Arsenal man insisted he is “itching to show what he can do” – adding that his “quality” can “never be in doubt”.

McLeish suggested the veteran’s presence could “inspire” his Rangers teammates to play at a higher level.

“This is when you start to see the finishing line,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“Aaron really needs to start getting back and playing in all these games, because he’s such an influence.

“His presence on the pitch will inspire everyone else, but you can’t put an injured player on the pitch.

“Ramsey is definitely someone you want in the starting eleven – every game is a cup final now.

“He needs to accelerate that recovery with club and country because it’s going to be an incredible run-in.

“Rangers are going to play Celtic possibly another three or four times.

“They’ll have to take advantage when Celtic choke and Ramsey could be key to helping retain the title under their noses.”
