Rangers agree seven-figure striker fee as deal moves closer – Sky Sports
Rangers have moved close to signing striker Jamie Murphy from Brighton after a seven-figure fee was agreed upon, according to a report.
Sky Sports claimed on their live transfer blog on Thursday [01:28PM] that the Glaswegians have shaken hands on a fee worth £1million for Murphy, 28, and that move should now spark a chain of events that could see the Premier League forward become a Ger by the end of Thursday
The Scottish Sun had earlier in the day reported that Murphy may be a Rangers player within the coming hours with a fee waiting to be agreed upon between the two sides.
It was understood that once a fee was agreed, the former Motherwell and Sheffield United attacker would jet out to Glasgow to undergo a medical and finalise a three-and-a-half year deal at Ibrox.
Murphy has been barely used by Chris Hughton at Brighton this season but could be a key player for Rangers in the second half of the season due to his versatility that sees him adept at playing as a striker or on the wings.
Football Insider verdict
Rangers need some added impetus to their attack and Murphy should offer just that. The striker has bags of experienced and is at the peak of his career, but unfortunately he is short of the required standard for the Premier League. That does not mean that he won’t be a good signing at Ibrox. Rangers should be looking for fringe players in England’s top tier, and not from the Championship. Sean Goss’ loan move from QPR on Wednesday was out of the blue and a bit underwhelming. Murphy should be just what Graeme Murty needs though, especially if he loses another striker.
In other Rangers news, it has been confirmed that this goalkeeper has left Ibrox after agreeing terms elsewhere.
