Rangers plot last ditch attempt for top-flight attacker as fourth bid is prepared – report

By Danny Wright

Rangers are plotting last ditch attempt to sign attacker Jamie Walker from Hearts, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun claims that the Light Blues are preparing to table a fourth bid for the 24-year-old, who is said to be eager for a move to Ibrox this summer.

It is understood that Rangers’ top-flight rivals Hearts have slapped a £1million valuation on the attack-minded winger, whose contract is set to run out next summer.

The report adds that the Glaswegians may look at Walker’s contract situation as a ploy to prise him away from Hearts, whose manager Ian Cathro has said that the transfer saga has ended.

However it seems that may not be the case as Pedro Caixinha was said to be seriously impressed with Walker’s performance in a 2-1 friendly defeat to Newcastle, in which he scored the Jam Tarts’ only goal.

The former Scotland Under-21 international was in outstanding form for the Edinburgh club last season as he scored 15 goals and supplied seven assists in 43 appearances across all competitions.

Rangers have already made a host of signings this summer with Daniel Candeias and Dalcio arriving at Ibrox to play on the wings while Barrie McKay has recently been sold to Nottingham Forest.

Football Insider Verdict

Walker’s record at Hearts last season speaks volumes and he would be a brilliant addition to Caixinha’s Ibrox overhaul this summer. Ryan Jack and Graham Dorrans have been the only Scottish players to join the Light Blues so far this transfer window, and with a lot of foreign talent now on board, it’s good to see that Caixinha is look to boost the number of domestic players in his squad. Walker would be a top replacement for McKay, whose exit from Glasgow was widely criticised by the fans. The Hearts ace could be a full Scottish international in the near future and that’s what type of player that the Gers need in their ranks.
