Murty must promote these Rangers rising stars to first-team for Florida Cup
COMMENT
Once Rangers play Celtic on Saturday the squad’s next game is against Atletico Mineiro almost a fortnight later in the Florida Cup.
The Gers will no doubt have a healthy following there but manager Graeme Murty must use it to try and blood more of the club’s Under-20’s into his first-team squad.
After six months of persevering with the current senior squad, sometimes a wee change is as good as bringing in a whole new signing and the possibility that some of the club’s talented youngsters could be given the chance to make the step up like Jamie Barjonas and Ross McCrorie should serve as motivation for them.
Understandably the fans will want to see some of the big names, and those guys should also be part of the pool that heads across the Atlantic next month but it should also be used to give the youths a chance to shine and perhaps win a place in the first-team squad for the second-half of the season.
Rising stars like Liam Burt, Zak Rudden and Serge Atakayi aren’t a million miles away from first-team football and while they’re not likely to make themselves first picks on the back of a few friendly games, it will give them a chance to see where they are in comparison with the rest of the squad and against quality opposition.
Murty must promote the trio to the first-team for next month’s friendly fixtures – they are the future of Ibrox afterall.
In other Rangers news, Gers fans tore into this one player for his performance against Motherwell.
