Rangers senior player must return to starting XI after long-term absence
COMMENT
Rangers midfielder Graham Dorrans could be available for Graeme Murty for the first time when the Gers face Motherwell on Saturday – and the experienced star must come straight back into the starting XI.
Dorrans has been out of action since coming off injured during Pedro Caixinha’s final game in charge in October but looks set to make his long-awaited return as the Light Blues try to get back to winning ways following back-to-back defeats.
The former Norwich and West Brom midfielder had been a mainstay in the starting XI before his injury and after Sean Goss’ form has dropped off, the timing of Dorrans’ return couldn’t have been better.
Goss made a bright start to his Rangers career but has looked well off the pace in the last few games.
With two Old Firms to come before the end of the season, Dorrans’ return gives Murty a proven star to bring back into his squad and add a player who adds quality in the middle of the park.
Ross McCrorie’s impending return could also give Murty another option in midfielder although the 20-year-old seems more likely to slot into central defence in the absence of David Bates.
The 30-year-old senior player has scored five times and contributed three assists in his 13 appearances for the Gers following his summer move from Norwich City.
