Declan John makes admission about Rangers defeat v Kilmarnock

Rangers star Declan John has revealed where he thinks the Gers need to improve after going down 2-1 to a well-drilled Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

The Welshman scored the opening goal to give the Ibrox side the lead before two late second-half goals from Kris Boyd kept the three points in Ayrshire.

Rangers were second-best for long spells against Killie but still had chances to kill the game off of their own but failed to make them count.

John admits that the Gers were too “sloppy” but believes Killie’s second goal had a little bit “luck” after deflecting off Kris Boyd and wrong-footing Wes Foderingham.

“Going up 1-0 in the first half, and I thought we played quite well in the first half, we had control, but the second half was sloppy from us and they had a bit of luck on the second goal,” John said, as quoted by the club’s official website.

“Going back to the last game, the same thing happened there.

“We just have to look at it for the games coming up.”

The result leaves the Gers a massive 11 points off leaders Celtic in the Scottish Premiership with the second Old Firm clash of the season next weekend.

John has agreed a new long-term deal at Ibrox after initially joining the Ibrox giants on a season-long loan from Cardiff City.

Wallace is expected back from injury imminently which could see John used in a more attacking role regularly over the second-half of the season.

In other Rangers news, four new signings are on the cards in January after the appointment of Graeme Murty until the end of the season.
