Rangers struck by new transfer concern as Nicolas Raskin update emerges

Nicolas Raskin’s future has been subject to plenty of speculation at Rangers amid suggestions of a behind-the-scenes disagreement with Russell Martin.

Former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider before his return to the XI that Raskin must prove he wants to be at Rangers.

The midfielder returned to the starting XI for Rangers’ win against Hibs and kept his place against Genk and Livingston, with the issues now behind them.

Martin had been criticised for his treatment of Raskin before his return to the side, with suggestions he could look to move on in January as a result.

Football Insider revealed on 13 September that Raskin could quit Rangers in January, with an exit looking certain while he was cast aside at Ibrox.

Nicolas Raskin transfer dilemma emerges at Rangers

Raskin’s return to the starting XI has come alongside optimism that he is happy at Ibrox and will not look to push for a move away in the January window.

However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, his impressive performances in a Rangers shirt will prove to be a double-edged sword.

While he makes a positive difference and remains one of the club’s best players, his displays will not go unnoticed by the interested clubs watching on.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “As long as he’s playing, think Raskin will be quite content at Ibrox as well.

“But if he gets back into the side and obviously does well, that will bring interest from other clubs as well, because there was interest in Raskin in the summer window.

“So again, it’s a bit of a double-edged sword for Rangers, if he’s doing well for them then there are going to be eyes on him.

“For me right now, due to the situation they’re in, they need Raskin in there. They’re a much better team when he’s playing.”

While the return of Raskin to Martin’s starting XI will no doubt come as a boost to Rangers, it will do little to help them in their efforts to keep him at the club.

Latest on Raskin future after Rangers starting XI return

Football Insider revealed on 28 September that Raskin is more likely to stay at Rangers beyond the January window following his return to the side.

The bust-up between Raskin and Martin now seems to have been resolved, or at least cast aside in favour of doing what is best for the team.

However, the interest is not thought to have gone away, with clubs keeping a close eye on his situation with the possibility to swoop during the mid-season window.

Brown told Football Insider in May that Raskin was wanted by Premier League clubs alongside European giants including the likes of Porto and Napoli.

However, Rangers remain hopeful of keeping hold of their star player beyond the January window, with his return to the starting XI seen as a huge boost.
