Rangers tipped to axe Borna Barisic after confirmed news – Hutton

Alan Hutton has claimed Rangers signing Ridvan Yilmaz will replace Borna Barisic in the starting XI next season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Gers defender said Barisic, 29, was “caught out a few times” against Tottenham on Saturday.

On Monday (25 July), Rangers confirmed the signing of Yilmaz, 21, from Besiktas.

The defender put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the Glasgow club.

Sky Sports reported (25 July) the fee for Yilmaz was around £3.4million, rising to £5m with add-ons.

When asked if he thought the Gers paid too much for the left-back, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think time will tell.

I think it’s definitely a position that needed strengthening with Calvin Bassey going, he could play the two positions. Left-back I think was somewhere that needed strengthening.

I thought at the weekend Barisic got caught out a few times against top class opposition. He was a bit high and wide at time so I think he needs to know that there’s going to be somebody there pushing him all the way.

Rangers

£5m is a lot of money but what that says to me is he’s maybe going to come in and start. Rangers, or Celtic, they don’t normally pay that sort of money for somebody to come in and just be a squad player.

I’ve looked him up he looks a decent player so it’ll be interesting see how that develops but he’ll definitely be pushing for the starting team.
