‘Rangers to step up Bojan Miovski chase following Jamie Vardy update’

Rangers are set to step up their chase for Bojan Miovski following the latest update regarding Jamie Vardy.

The Glasgow giants have an important summer window ahead as they seek to end Celtic’s four-year reign of dominance in the Scottish Premiership — which has seen the two arch-rivals draw level on 55 titles each.

New boss Russell Martin has already strengthened his squad with the likes of Max Aarons, Oscar Cortes, Thelo Aasgaard and Joe Rothwell arriving, among others.

But striker also appears to be a position of particular focus, with the Gers linked to former Aberdeen goalscorer Bojan Miovski, as well as an ambitious bid for ex-England and Leicester City star Jamie Vardy.

Rangers to miss out on Jamie Vardy

Former Everton and Aston Villa chief Keith Wyness recently tipped Miovski and Vardy to form a partnership at Ibrox (17 July) in an exclusive interview with Football Insider.

Unfortunately for Rangers, that may now be a difficult prospect to bring to fruition, with Football Insider learning that ambitious Championship side Birmingham City are looking to sign Vardy as a free agent.

Given their proximity to Leicester, a move to St. Andrews would be a much smoother transition for Vardy than heading north to Glasgow, with Birmingham’s American owners confident they can close a deal.

What’s more, there is uncertainty regarding the future of Cyriel Dessers at Ibrox.

The Nigeria international was the Scottish Premiership top scorer last season with 18 goals — which also left him six clear of any teammate.

However, that form has attracted the attention of clubs from around Europe, including Greek giants AEK Athens — as revealed by Football Insider.

Missing out on Vardy is one thing, but losing Dessers would be a hammerblow to Rangers’ title hopes, even if he turns 31 during the upcoming season and has just two years left to run on his contract.

With that in mind, Rangers must focus all their efforts on securing the signing of Miovski.

The Macedonia international has struggled since moving to Spanish side Girona, but has a proven track record in Scotland, notching 44 goals and seven assists in 98 appearances across all competitions for Aberdeen between 2022 and 2024.

“I studied Miovski closely when he was at Aberdeen. He did get the sort of the scoring knack after a while. Obviously, he adapted well to the Scottish game. He is a box striker, which I think is what Celtic and Rangers need,” Wyness said of Miovski.

The 26-year-old’s record includes 30 goals in 68 league outings, which is ultimately where Rangers will be judged in the upcoming campaign, so the time to act is now.
