‘Rangers well placed to stun football world with Jose Mourinho appointment’

Rangers are enduring a dismal season and Jose Mourinho lit the blue touchpaper with his Ibrox confession this week as the club’s permanent manager search ramps up.

Former club captain Barry Ferguson was brought in until the end of the season in a bid to steady the ship, but it’s unclear whether he will be kept around beyond his current contract.

Philippe Clement had struggled to make an impact during his time at the club, and he sent a farewell message to Rangers that showed his frustration about the situation and how his time went.

Industry insider Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider that Steven Gerrard is open to returning to Ibrox next season after his time in Saudi Arabia has come to an end.

There is a lot of improvements to be made for whoever takes charge as the Gers are 16 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

There is the chance that a serious cash injection is coming to Rangers moving forward wit US investors having agreed a deal in principle to take over, and that could be spent on a top-quality manager.

Jose Mourinho could take over at Ibrox

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson has revealed he believes that Jose Mourinho would be a “really good fit” at Ibrox.

The one that would excite Rangers fans is what we heard just now, Jose Mourinho talking in his press conference,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“He certainly didn’t rule out a move to Rangers.

“His Fenerbahce team are playing Rangers in the Europa League and in the press conference he left the door very wide open said he understood he loves working for a passionate football club a passionate fan base and you can just see Jose there can’t you?

“Winding up both sides of the city, getting into arguments, getting under people’s skin and it’s he just seems a really good fit.

“I mean we never really thought about it too much but actually Jose Mourinho said that he’s loyal to Fenerbahce he’s got a job to do etc, but he certainly didn’t close the door.

“In fact, from the way I took at it, he quite welcomed it.

“If Jose Mourinho wanted an easy dollar or an easy pound, whatever he’s earning, Turkish lira, he’d be in another league in the world.

“He’d go maybe go to Saudi Arabia, manage there, and all of a sudden he’s doing a job there, getting extremely well paid for it.

“His passion for football his desire to win, his desire for trophies, for me I mean I’m going off topic here but I just think that he would be a really good fit for Rangers. It would stun the football world but why not?

“Rafa Benitez not so much, but Jose I could certainly see that one happening, and like I’ve said in the past, the size of Rangers and the size of Celtic when they’re competing in European competition these two football clubs are massive football clubs in Europe.

“With the new ownership coming in, the recruitment bar should be set higher for Rangers, I don’t see why not.

“The finances are there to do it now with the takeover, the understanding of the business now, so the side of the club, and the bar should be set higher for recruitment.”

Jose Mourinho might return to Old Trafford

Mourinho’s recent comments had Rangers fans excited about him possibly joining the club, but he also has Man United fans in a spin too.

The ‘Special One’ recently admitted he has a good relationship with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, which has led people to believe he could return to Man United.

Ruben Amorim is under increasing pressure at Old Trafford after winning just five Premier League games since November, leading the club to 14th in the table.
