Rangnick has transformed Fred after ‘brilliant’ Man United reveal – pundit

Fred is one of the players who “stands to benefit the most” from Ralf Rangnick’s arrival at Man United.

That is the view of former Spurs and England number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 28-year-old’s “brilliant” performance against Crystal Palace.

Rangnick got off to a winning start at Manchester United on Sunday with a 1-0 win over Palace.

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day after the win (5 December), Rangnick mocked the Brazilian midfielder by saying he thought he “could only shoot with his left.”

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Fred’s performance, Robinson said:

“I think the way Rangnick set up from the outset played into Fred’s strengths. He played him in a deeper role, more of a destroyer role alongside Scott McTominay.

“Their role gives the players in front of them the license to attack. The remit for Fred was to break up the play and give to other players. That will benefit the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho.

“I think that role really suits Fred. I think he’s one of the players who stands to benefit the most from Rangnick’s appointment.

“He was brilliant on Sunday. The question is can he produce that level of performance consistently.”
