Reliable journalist: Personal terms agreed in reported £6m deal for Arsenal 28-year-old

By Danny Wright

Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina has agreed personal terms with Fenerbahce, according to a reliable journalist.

Bleacher Report journalist Dean Jones claimed on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday that the Turkish giants are “still hopeful a deal can be struck” for the 28-year-old but will not be willing to wait too long as they “as they want all deals done” as soon as possible.

Turkish news outlet Fanatik have reported that Ospina will cost Fenerbahce £6million in his switch to the Super Lig on a four-year deal worth around £40,000-a-week.

The Colombian goalkeeper moved to Arsenal from French outfit Nice in a deal worth £3million in 2014.

He has since played a key back-up role to Petr Cech in the Gunners squad, but it appears that playing second fiddle is no longer acceptable to him as he looks to play elsewhere.

Ospina has made just 49 appearances for Arsenal in his three years in North London, keeping 18 clean sheets.

He was called upon by Arsene Wenger to play in matches that were away from the Premier League and was called upon in the FA Cup final win against Chelsea last month.

Football Insider Verdict

Ospina isn’t one of the best goalkeepers in Europe, but he is certainly a solid back-up option to Cech and it will be a slight inconvenience for Wenger, who will now have to find a new No 2 ‘keeper this summer. The Frenchman’s use of Ospina has been crticised in the past and rightly so as Cech is by far the better option. However every club needs a good back-up goalkeeper and the £6million garnered from the sale of the Colombian should be invested back into replacing him. There are some good choices out there for Wenger, and he should look at a younger player who could eventually step up and takeover from Cech.
