Reliable journalist shares information on Wolves striker search, tells PL man is an option

By Harvey Byrne

Wolves’ striker search has seen them look for a player with the ability to link play with one-touch passes and Southampton’s Sam Gallagher is currently an option, according to a reliable journalist.

The Midlands club have been extremely busy this summer, bringing in as many as nine players and they are now keen to add more firepower to their squad.

This has seen them turn their attentions to a forward and Express and Star writer Tim Spiers has told on his personal Twitter account on Monday that the club have a specific type of striker in mind, but that manager Nuno Espirito Santo will not rush into bringing someone in.

Links to 21-year-old Gallagher have resurfaced this summer and the  Express and Star reported on Sunday that Wolves were looking to beat a number of Championship clubs to his loan signing.

The former England Under-20 international has played 20 times for the Southampton senior team, scoring twice and was handed a new deal taking him up to 2021 earlier this summer.

Football Insider verdict:

Gallagher showed his quality at Blackburn in the last campaign in front of goal, where he managed a return of 12 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions. He has also been brought up through the Southampton youth ranks, where the ethos is to get players who can play with their feet and despite his high physical stature he is very adept at playing a passing game. However, one downfall of Gallagher to Wolves is that Southampton are unlikely to let him leave on a permanent deal, meaning that the Midlands club will be in a similar position next summer. But, if Gallagher is able to fire Wolves to the Premier League then they could attract a much more high calibre player to the club, as they have already proven to do so this summer with Ruben Neves.

In other Wolves transfer news, this imminent loan signing includes an option to buy for the club.
