Murty: This is what Rangers are relishing after win against Falkirk

Rangers manager Graeme Murty has thrown down the gauntlet to Celtic ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm clash at Ibrox by praising his players to the hilt after their recent good run of form.

The Gers have won nine of their last 10 games, and Murty was extremely impressed with the performance of his team in the 4-1 Scottish Cup quarter-final victory over Falkirk.

“They are flowing with confidence right now and they want to get into the games against Celtic,” Murty said, as quoted by Rangers TV as reported by BT Sport.

“They are going to relish the challenge and I think it is a really good marker for us to look at a team that want to get into that game and want to go and mix it up.”

The Light Blues were comfortable winners over Falkirk, with Jason Cummings the star man after scoring a hat-trick.

The manager now has a decision to make, if Cummings should start alongside Alfredo Morelos against Celtic or if he goes for the regular choice of Morelos up-front.

Football Insider verdict

Murty is correct to praise his players, as the Light Blues are probably in their best run of form since the Gers returned to the Scottish Premiership. The team have put together a solid run of results, with the January additions to the team making a big difference to the side. The litmus test is the game against Celtic though, and after two draws in his first two Old Firm matches Murty will be looking to go one better on this occasion, and with the Gers recent good run of form and with Celtic’s recent run of indifferent results this may be the best chance yet for the Gers to record their first Old Firm league win since 2012.
