Report details development on Celtic midfielder efforts to quit Parkhead
Hibernian may struggle to sign Celtic midfielder Scott Allan in the summer transfer window, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claims that there are doubts over whether Hibs can hang on to the loan trio of Allan, Jamie Maclaren and Brandon Barker after their temporary agreements expire.
Allan, 26, returned to Easter Road in January and has already confirmed that he would like to quit Parkhead in order to join the Edinburgh club on a permanent basis.
When asked if he wants to stay at Hibs, Allan was quoted by the Edinburgh News last month as saying: “Yes. If we can keep this squad together and everything else goes well it will basically come down to how the Hibs and Celtic hierarchies deal with it, it’s not up to me. But I love it here. In my last month at Dundee I was back fit and starting to tick again. But this came up at the time and I was fortunate to get it done.”
Football Insider verdict
Allan has probably had the best season of his career this term, but Celtic should still look to offload the 26-year-old as he clearly has no places in Brendan Rodgers’ plans. Allan spent the first half of the season at Dundee before his loan was transferred to Hibernian so Scott Bain could join the Bhoys. Since switching to Easter Road, the midfielder has scored two goals and supplied five assists in 11 Scottish Premiership appearances. Surely Hibs would want to keep the ex-West Brom and Portsmouth player, especially as he has publically stated that he wants to stay in Neil Lennon’s side. With the chance of Dylan McGeouch and John McGinn leaving Hibs, Lennon will need midfielders and Allan should be someone they’re looking at. If he is keen on the move, and Hibs keen on it, it’s hard to see what could hold up the deal. Rodgers is not likely to want to keep Allan around either, so it would be odd to not see this deal go through in the summer.
In other Celtic news, Rodgers must make good on this transfer promise and sign an £8million-rated defender who blew away Lionel Messi.
