Report details four clubs are lining up move for Newcastle 20-year-old
By Derek Smithson
Newcastle youngster Freddie Woodman is being eyed by four teams for a loan deal, according to a report.
The Chronicle claim that Peterborough United, Northampton Town, Bury and Kilmarnock are all lining up a move for the 20-year-old.
He is currently one of the goalkeepers on the books at St James’ Park, but faces tough competition to force his way into contention ahead of the club’s Premier League return.
Woodman has recently enjoyed a great summer after helping England win the Under-20s World Cup.
The goalkeeper played a key role for the young Lions and is now being tipped to have a great future in the game.
He spent the second half of last season on loan at Scottish Club Kilmarnock, where he kept four clean sheets in 15 appearances.
Football Insider verdict:
Newcastle need to send emerging youngster Woodman out on loan for the new campaign and Scottish top-flight club could be the best destination. The shot stopper spent time there last season and it will take him no time to settle. He will continue his development with regular first-team football and that is not going to happen under Benitez in the immediate future. However, his efforts in the summer have ensured the Newcastle fans are already eagerly awaiting his breakthrough into the senior team. Woodman just needs to continue learning his craft elsewhere and is still extremely young at just 20.
In other Newcastle transfer news, they are keen on a 26-year-old Championship midfielder.
