Report details Leeds expect £5m-plus fee for defender this summer

By Derek Smithson

Leeds believe they can earn £5million-plus for Charlie Taylor’s expected departure this summer, according to a report.

The 23-year-old is set to move on from Elland Road this summer when he becomes a free agent on 1 July and his decision not to play for the club at the back-end of last season has scuppered his reputation with fans.

The Yorkshire Evening Post claim that the Whites are “confident” of obtaining more than £5million for the 23-year-old.

It is understood that if any club wants to sign the left-back this summer a compensation fee will be decided at a tribunal, with the player a product of the club’s academy and still under the age of 24.

The report details that extensive talks have been held with West Brom about a potential move for Taylor, but the two clubs have yet to agree a fee.

Burnley are also believe to be strongly interested in the full-back, but don’t want to overpay for the Championship ace.

Taylor was handed a two-year deal by Leeds deal in May that he is expected to reject, but he will remain on the club’s payroll until he finalises a move elsewhere.

The Yorkshire Evening Post states that he is unlikely to link-up with Thomas Christiansen’s squad for pre-season as he looks to force a move to a top-flight club.

Taylor has made 104 senior appearances for Leeds since breaking into their first team, but appears to be leaving them on a negative note.

The attack-minded left-back was named the club’s player of the year in the 2015/16 season, but he made just 32 appearances during the last campaign.

In other Leeds transfer news, they have been installed the firm favourites to sign a 21-year-old Premier League striker.
