Report names Celtic £25,000-a-week top earner, player can’t even get in the squad
By Alex Stevens
Celtic’s equal top earning player is veteran defender Kolo Toure, according to a report.
The Daily Star, citing information from the 2017 version of Football Manager, claim that Toure is on a salary of £25,000-a-week at Parkhead.
This places the centre-back, 35, on a par with 32-goal striker Mousa Dembele, who also joined in the same transfer window last summer as Toure.
But, unlike player of the year contender Dembele, Toure can hardly be said to be one of the key players in Brendan Rodgers’ side.
The former Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal ace has not made an appearance since the 3 December Scottish Premiership win over Motherwell.
Toure has been available selection over the last three months but has either been an unused substitute or not even made the matchday squad.
The 118-times Ivory Coast international was omitted from the matchday 18 for Celtic’s 1-1 league draw against Rangers at Parkhead on Sunday even though he was said to be fully fit.
Rodgers chose to start with Dedryk Boyata and Erik Sviatchenko as the centre-back partnership, with Jozo Simunovic on the substitute’s bench.

Celtic remain on course for the Scottish treble despite their failure to secure all three points against Rangers at the weekend.
The Hoops are 25 points clear of second-placed Aberdeen, have already won the Scottish League Cup and face a Scottish Cup semi-final against Rangers later this month.
In other Celtic news, incoming manager Pedro Caixinha has lined up his first four transfer signings, with deals all but done for three of them.
