Report: Newcastle handed senior boost, Benitez set to spring surprise v Manchester United
Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez looks set to utilise all three of his January signings with striker Islam Slimani fully fit after his injury struggles, according to a report.
The Chronicle claim on their website that the Algerian international, who arrived from Premier League rivals Leicester City on a loan deal until the end of the season, has fully recovered from the thigh injury he suffered during training before his move, a blow which forced him to miss the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace last weekend.
His return will be a major boost to Benitez’s hopes of beating Manchester United on Sunday, with the Spanish boss set to spring a surprise and start both Slimani and fellow deadline day signing Martin Dubravka, despite the impressive performances of goalkeeping rival Karl Darlow against the Eagles.
The duo are set to be joined by Chelsea loanee Kenedy in the starting XI, with the Brazilian having had an immediate impact following his arrival at St James’ Park, chipping in with two assists in his opening two appearances.
Newcastle were thrashed by Jose Mourinho’s men 4-1 in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford, and are currently sitting just one point above the relegation zone in 16th place.
In other Newcastle United transfer news, the club are set to reignite a swoop for an international hitman.
