Report: Newcastle seal multiple deals for senior figures as Benitez eyes transfer boost

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has overseen an overhaul of the club’s transfer network as they seal deals for a number of new senior full-time scouts in both Spain and central Europe, according to a report.

The Chronicle claim on their website that the Magpies now have talent spotters in the likes of Slovenia, Hungary and Croatia, as well as Benitez’s home country of Spain, as they look to revitalise a struggling under-23 set up with some new blood.

It is said that with the club’s Premier League safety still up in the air, the focus will be on bringing prospective talents to Tyneside, and when the Magpies have sealed their fate either in the top flight or the second tier, then first team transfer activity will take place.

Football Insider verdict

Benitez knows what Newcastle can achieve with some changes and these new additions to the scouting team will only help their hopes of both immediate success as well as future prospects. There has not been a player to break through from the youth ranks into the senior side since Paul Dummett and it is about time that changed. Whether Benitez will be around to see the fruits of his labour is another matter but at least he is setting the groundwork for Newcastle to grow from the bottom upwards, and it can only be a matter of time until the Toon Army are chanting the name of another homegrown talent.
