Report: Tottenham plot summer move for £25m Pochettino favourite, player ready to move
By Dominic Toner
Tottenham haven’t given up on January plans to sign Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, according to a report.
The Express claim that Spurs will now make a summer move for the 24-year-old, who is highly-rated by manager Mauricio Pochettino.
It is understood that Palace value Zaha at around £25million and they turned down a £21million offer last summer from Spurs.
Spurs tried again in January but it was reported in The Express that sources close to Zaha believe that he could be ready to move in the summer.
Zaha has been the standout player at Selhurst Park this season as they try to escape the drop under manager Sam Allardyce.
The right winger has made 24 appearances this season across all competitions, scoring four goals and supplying eight assists.
Pochettino has long been a fan and seems determined to land the player that he has made a concerted effort to buy.
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parrish shared last summer that Pochettino rates Zaha so highly he “thinks he’s the next [Cristiano] Ronaldo“.
Ex-Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand believes that Spurs have the weakest squad out of the top six in the Premier League and Pochettino may be keen to improve this in the summer window.
Zaha was let go by United after failing to carve out a first-team career at Old Trafford, but has managed to show his potential during his spell with Palace.
Football Insider verdict:
Spurs certainly could do with a pacy attacker in the summer to improve their squad and Zaha certainly fits the bill. Moussa Sissoko has been unable to make the desired impact at White Hart Lane, while Georges-Kevin N’Koudou is not fancied by Pochettno. Zaha has proved that he can be effective in the Premier League and would surely revel in a Spurs side that enjoy a lot more possession than Palace. Pochettino has proven that he has a good eye for talent and is known to be a big admirer of the winger. The north London club need to improve their squad options if they are to challenge for the Premier League title next season, something that Zaha would certainly do. This is looking increasingly likely – how much longer can Crystal Palace realistically hold off?
