Rio Ferdinand: Pochettino must address this major Tottenham problem
By Dominic Toner
Rio Ferdinand believes that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino must address the strength of his squad as he feels it’s the weakest out of the top six in the Premier League.
Spurs are currently involved in a tough battle for a top four spot this season, with just four points separating the second-placed and sixth-placed clubs.
The north London club currently third in the league table, but suffered a 2-0 defeat against Liverpool on Saturday.
Spurs now have a short break between their next league match on 26 February against Stoke, but have an FA Cup fifth-round tie with Fulham, as well as both legs of the Europa League round of 32 tie with Belgian side Gent.
Ex-Manchester United and England defender Ferdinand claims that he is concerned about the size of the Spurs squad and says Pochettino must look to strengthen in the future.

“I have to say, the strength of Spurs’ squad is still a big worry,” Ferdinand wrote in the Evening Standard. “I looked at their bench when they faced Liverpool at the weekend and it was the weakest out of the top six clubs, in terms of who can come on and change a game. That is something Pochettino has to address in the future.”
Spurs have assembled a formidable starting line-up at White Hart Lane and they have been regarded as a main contender for the title during stages of the season.
They have a strong core of English stars Dele Alli and Harry Kane in their side, while also possessing a strong defence.
However, Ferdinand believes they don’t have enough options in their squad unlike their top six rivals.
Spurs have quite often used Moussa Sissoko as an impact substitute this season, but he has been unable to settle since his summer arrival from Newcastle.
Forward Vincent Janssen is another player who has disappointed and has not offered any competition for Kane in the side.
Chelsea’s strength in depth is clear to see as stars Cesc Fabregas and Willian are regularly introduced as substitutes, but Spurs have lacked the same kind of quality on their bench.
In other Tottenham news, the club’s loan star has been nominated for an award after an impressive display.
