Reported Tottenham target offers huge insight into transfer future
By Russell Edge
Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun has admitted that he would be open to a move to the Premier League amid reported interest from top flight sides.
The 26-year-old was reportedly scouted by Tottenham in the Turkish side’s 3-1 victory over Porto in the Champions League, which saw the striker net an outstanding strike from well outside the box.
Newcastle are also said to be interested in making a move for the Turkish international, with the Daily Mail claiming they, alongside Crystal Palace, made an enquiry about the forward over the summer.
The Eagles went a step further than the Magpies, with Tosun admitting that had a bid from Palace arrived earlier than deadline day, then he could have been lining up in England this season.
While the move did not come off this summer, the striker insists that he is open to a move to England and definitively stated that he will be holding talks about his future at the end of the season.
He told ESPN: “I want to be an ambassador for Turkey abroad. I am keen on playing in England.
“I am really pleased with the interest being shown from the Premier League sides mentioned.
“We will discuss my future with the club president at the end of the season.”
The 21-time capped international has already managed to score four goals in six appearances this season, continuing his fine form from last season where he netted24 in 47 outings.
Football Insider verdict
News that Tosun is open to a move to England will be music to Newcastle and Tottenham’s ears, but his open admission may draw interest from other clubs. His fine form is difficult to ignore, and with proficient strikers at a premium these days, there is no doubt he will be on the shortlists of other top flight sides. However, the clubs’ continued interest may act as a show of faith to Tosun, although his priority may well be ensuring that he will be given guaranteed game time. That certainly is not a given at Spurs, with Harry Kane firmly Mauricio Pochettino’s favourite, but Newcastle might be able to offer him the guaranteed role he would be looking for. Either way, it promises to be a fascinating transfer saga.
