Revealed: Chelsea could now sack Mauricio Pochettino amid ‘key’ Liverpool development
Huge news on Chelsea manager as new Pochettino details emerge ahead of critical showdown
Mauricio Pochettino’s time as Chelsea boss could come to an end if he suffers defeat against Liverpool in the League Cup final later this month, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (5 February) that Pochettino, 51, is not under imminent sack pressure despite the 4-2 loss against Wolves at the weekend.
Sources say the US-based ownership don’t want to dispense with the Argentine already after learning lessons from a tumultuous 2022-23 campaign.
Pochettino has masterminded wins over Brighton, Blackburn, Newcastle and Middlesbrough to lead Chelsea to the final of the League Cup – where they will face Liverpool at Wembley on 25 February.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the final is seen as “key” to the ex-Tottenham manager’s future.
Results must also improve in the weeks before the showpiece game – as Todd Boehly and his senior team won’t hesitate to make a change if the situation becomes toxic.
It is believed the finances are in place for Chelsea to lure another top-tier manager to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues currently sit 11th in the Premier League and could advance to the fifth round of the FA Cup if they can beat Aston Villa in a replay on Wednesday (7 February).
Pochettino was appointed at Stamford Bridge last summer and signed a contract running until June 2025.

Chelsea face Crystal Palace and Man City in Premier League action before the League Cup clash with Liverpool.
The Blues’ last clash against Jurgen Klopp’s side ended in a 4-1 defeat.
