Revealed: Everton defender told to find new club after injury blow
Everton defender Morgan Feeney has been told to find a new club this summer, Football Insider understands.
The 21-year-old is out of contract at the end of the month after spending the second half of the season on loan at Tranmere Rovers in League One.
An Everton source has told Football Insider that Feeney has been told he is being released and has started looking for a new club.
It is a major blow for the 6ft 3in centre-back, who has graduated from the youth ranks at Goodison Park to play twice for the senior side.
He has also the long-standing captain of David Unsworth’s Under-23s and has made a remarkable 68 appearances for the club at that level.
Feeney had hoped to ignite his senior career at Tranmere following his January move.
But he made just one appearance at the start of February before suffering a hamstring injury that ruled him out of the rest of the campaign.
Rovers found out earlier this week they will be playing in League Two next season after EFL club voted to curtail League One and the final league positions decided on a points-per-game basis.
Feeney’s progress at Everton had previously been disrupted by a serious knee injury and he will now look to secure a move when the summer window opens.
He made his Everton first-team bow against Atalanta in the Europa League in 2017 and was handed his full debut in another Europa League tie against Apollon Limassol.
The Merseysiders announced last week the Yerry Mina is set to miss the restart of the Premier League season after picking up a thigh tear in training.
Ancelotti is instead looking to promote January signing Jarrad Branthwaite, only 17, into the first-team squad to back-up Mason Holgate and Michael Keane.
In other Everton news, it can be REVEALED that the club are within hours of finalising transfer for 7-figure fee after he underwent medical.
