Revealed: Why Rangers have been continuously rejected during new manager search
Rangers’ recruitment model has been a sticking point for a number of their managerial candidates, sources have told Football Insider.
The Glasgow giants have been searching for a new man in the dugout since they sacked Russell Martin before the international break, following a 1-1 draw with Falkirk.
Steven Gerrard rejected a return to Ibrox, a move which saw the Gers pivot to former player Kevin Muscat.
However, over the weekend Muscat also pulled out of the race to be the Rangers manager, adding to the misery for the Scottish side.

Kevin Muscat and Steven Gerrard concerned over recruitment and budget
There were reports that Rangers had ended their interest in Muscat due to the fact he wanted to see out the Chinese Super League season with Shanghai Port
However, reports are now saying that it was the Australian who cancelled talks, as he had concerns over the recruitment model, as well as the budget he would receive.
Gerrard also had reservations about Kevin Thelwell and the amount of input he would have in the club’s transfer business
Sources say that both were unwilling to leave Thelwell with full control of the recruitment strategy, and also felt that they wouldn’t be given enough funds to overhaul the underperforming squad in January.
Rangers close to appointing manager
Meanwhile, Danny Rohl is in advanced talks to be the new Rangers manager, sources have told Football Insider.

Rohl pulled out of the race to replace Martin last week after seemingly being seen as not the first choice of the Ibrox board.
But, in a dramatic new development, the 36-year-old German is now the firm frontrunner to take over as the Rangers manager.
Rohl has been out of work since he left Sheffield Wednesday over the summer.
