Robbie Fowler: There is no chance of Liverpool 25-year-old leaving
By Derek Smithson
Robbie Fowler is confident that attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho will stay with Liverpool this summer.
The 25-year-old has been linked with a move away from Anfield and the Independent claim that the Reds rejected a £72million bid from Barcelona.
Jurgen Klopp has also stated that the Brazil international is “comfortable” at the Merseyside club despite interest from the Spanish giants.
Fowler has reiterated Klopp’s feelings and feels that Coutinho will be at Liverpool next season.
“As things stand, I genuinely believe there’s no chance of him leaving Liverpool this summer,” Fowler wrote in his column for the Daily Mirror. “The way Jurgen Klopp has been so firm, so resolute in saying he is definitely staying, speaks volumes to me. It shows he believes it.”
Coutinho has become a Liverpool icon since his arrival in 2013 and is considered to be a key component in Klopp’s side.
The playmaker made 36 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring 14 goals and supplying nine assists in return.
He managed to help the club return to the Champions League with a top-four finish last season and is regarded as their talisman.
Coutinho has seen the likes of Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke bolster the club’s attacking options, but is still expected to be a mainstay in the starting line-up.
In other Liverpool transfer news, European giants are preparing a bid for the club’s 23-year-old.
