Robinson blown away by Tottenham’s Sarr capture after ‘doing research’ on him

Paul Robinson has been blown away after Tottenham signed Pape Matar Sarr from French side Metz.

The former Spurs stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted as the club confirmed another summer signing.

Tottenham confirmed the signing of Sarr on 27 August though he will remain on loan at Metz for this season.

Sarr, 18, enjoyed a breakthrough 2020-21 campaign in France and was the subject of much transfer speculation this summer.

On 15 August, Football Insider revealed how the defensive midfielder was also being tracked by Manchester United and Chelsea.

Robinson is excited by the signing and has been blown away by what one of Sarr’s national teammates has said about him.

“I’ve done a bit of research on him,” Robinson told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs.

“He’s been described as the future of Senegal. Idrissa Gueye is meant to have said he’s the best player to come out of Senegal for years.

“Wow, that’s really impressive because Gueye has had a lot of nice things said about him during his career.

“Tottenham weren’t the only club interested so they have done really well to get him at the price they have.

In May, PSG centre midfielder Gueye told Get French Football News that he is a huge fan of Sarr and admitted he is the “future of Senegal”.

Despite his age, Sarr already had two Senegal caps to his name after jumping straight from the Under 17s to the senior side.

In other news, Robinson fears Tottenham have another ‘Eriksen’ on their hands after Athletic update.
