Robinson delivers verdict on Ings replacing Kane at Tottenham after Sky update

Danny Ings is “not good enough” to replace Harry Kane at Tottenham, according to Paul Robinson.

The former White Hart Lane number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Spurs need to sign a “top European striker” if Kane, 27, is to leave at the end of the season.

Sky Sports revealed on Monday that Kane wants to leave Spurs before the Euros with Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea all registering their interest.

The Sunday Mirror (16/5; page 73) claim the London club are interested in signing Danny Ings from Southampton this summer.

The England international has scored 12 goals in 27 league appearances this term, including four goals in his last five appearances.

He has little over a year left on his contract at St. Mary’s and is said to be available for £30million.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if Ings would be an adequate replacement for Kane, Robinson said:

“In my opinion Ings is not good enough to be Harry Kane’s replacement, should Kane leave this summer.

“Kane gets so many goals and assists for Spurs, I don’t think Ings would be enough.

“If you lose Kane you need to go and sign a top European striker and Danny Ings is not in that bracket.

“You could bring Ings in but it should only be as a bit-part for when your world-class striker doesn’t play. I’m not saying Ings would be a bad signing though, for £30million it would be smart business.”
