Robinson fumes over ‘nonsense’ decision at Tottenham after Nuno latest

Paul Robinson is baffled by Nuno Espirito Santo’s decision making at Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one revealed his anger at the timing of the 47-year-old’s substitutions against West Ham.

Tottenham lost 1-0 at the London Stadium on Sunday – their fourth London derby defeat this season.

Nuno waited until the 84th minute to make his first substitutions, despite the Hammers taking the lead after 72 minutes.

Giovani Lo Celso and Bryan Gil replaced Sergio Reguilon and Tanguy Ndombele, while Steven Bergwijn came on for Lucas Moura in stoppage time.

As quoted by Football.London (24th October), Espirito Santo insisted he does not regret the timing of his substitutions because “the game was under control”.

Robinson disagreed with the Spurs manager’s assessment.

“You have to question his decision,” he told Football Insider.

“The second half was going terribly. They hadn’t had a shot.

“Why leave it to six minutes until the end to bring two creative players on and then wait a further seven minutes to bring Bergwijn on. Spurs were chasing the game. It just shows naivety to me.

“There was no reason why he shouldn’t have changed it a lot earlier. It made no sense to me.”

Tottenham failed to attempt a single shot in the second half.

It was the third time this season they have failed to register a shot in the second half – the most of any Premier League side. (OptaJoe)
