Robinson: Liverpool could be about to complete a ‘great deal’ after cut-price Konate update

Liverpool would be getting “a great deal” if they sign RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate for a fee in the region of £29million, according to Paul Robinson.

The former England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, is a big fan of the 21-year-old and tips him to have “an amazing career at the highest level”.

The Athletic‘s James Pearce revealed on Monday that the club are “really, really keen” to bring the centre-half to Anfield this summer.

According to Christian Falk, Konate’s release clause is lower than expected and is somewhere between £28.25million to £29.5million.

The 6 foot 4 inch colossus has made 17 appearances this season, with six of those in the Champions League.

When asked by Football Insider if a deal in the region of £29million would be good business, Robinson said: “Konate is a top player.

“He will go on to have an amazing career at the highest level so if Liverpool can pick him up for that price, that is a great deal.

“When Klopp gets his all his centre-halves fit, it will be Van Dijk and Gomez that play but to have somebody of the age and quality of Konate in reserve would be fantastic.

“He would learn so much from playing alongside Van Dijk. He makes the players around him better. He even made Lovren look like a good player! There is a lot of bonuses to playing alongside Van Dijk.”

In other news, Liverpool would ‘seriously consider’ a ‘substantial offer’ for player hailed ‘special’ by Carragher, according to pundit.
