Robinson: Mourinho ‘will speak’ with Hojbjerg as Tottenham line up transfer raid
Jose Mourinho will seek the counsel of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg before Tottenham make a move for Jannick Vestergaard.
That is according to former Lilywhites number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the prospect of Vestergaard, 28, joining Spurs in the summer.
The Mirror claim Jose Mourinho is considering a move for the Denmark international at the end of the season.
Vestergaard will have just 12 months left on his contract at St. Mary’s come July and he could be available for a knockdown price.
Tottenham signed Hojbjerg for a £15million fee last August after he entered the final year of his contract at Southampton.
When asked if Mourinho would speak to Hojbjerg about potentially signing Vestergaard, Robinson told Football Insider: “Without a doubt.
“Mourinho will speak to him about Vestergaard if the club decide that he is the player they want.
“There is a lot of due diligence done on players now. It is not just done by scouting, watching videos and assessing their style of play any more.
“There is a lot of research done into personality, lifestyle and what type of character they are off the pitch.”
Football Insider understands Spurs will enter the market for defensive reinforcements this summer with Davinson Sanchez not trusted by Mourinho in the big games.
The club will entertain offers for the Colombia international they signed for £42million from Ajax in 2017.
