Rodgers transfer comments could give Celtic fans worrying sense of deja vu
COMMENT
Brendan Rodgers had made some comments which could be worrying for Hoops fans, and give them the worrying sense of deja vu that the Hoops aren’t going to push on and make some big signings in the summer.
The Hoops boss claimed that the Hoops weren’t going to drastically change their transfer policy, and would only be able to sign players that the club could afford, and who were interested in moving to Scotland.
Rodgers was quoted by the Sky Sports Scotland Twitter account, and fans may well feel uneasy about the words of the Northern Irishman.
The Hoops boss is being sensible to an extent in his comments, as it is true that players often do not want to move to Scotland, as the quality of football isn’t the best.
But if the Hoops want to make a good fist of things in the Champions League, then the standard of player will have to improve.
There is no doubt that players will want to play in the Champions League for the Hoops, but they aren’t going to want to play for a team who are likely to be heavily defeated as soon as they come up against one of the ‘big’ clubs.
The Hoops are in a bit of a catch-22 situation, as they need to improve their side, but there is no guarantee that players will come to Scotland.
Rodgers’ comments might well have been about playing down the expectations of the Hoops support, and if that is the case then fans might well be in for a disappointing summer.
