Rodon tipped to seal January transfer after Tottenham source’s ‘100%’ reveal

Danny Mills has insisted Joe Rodon “has to accept it’s time to move on” from Tottenham.

The former Leeds defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 24-year-old was a “panic buy”.

This site exclusively revealed last week (4 December) that Rodon has set his sights on quitting Tottenham in January after his lack of action under new manager Antonio Conte.

Tottenham

A Spurs source has told Football Insider that Rodon has already seen enough to be “100 per cent” seeking an exit in the upcoming window.

The Welshman has played just 78 minutes of Premier League football this season.

Mills suggested Rodon is not a “good long-term fit” for Tottenham.

“I think we’ve seen a few signings like that, panic buys which haven’t quite worked out,” he told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“Ben Davies going to Liverpool from Preston is another one, you just wonder what the point of signing them was in the end – what was the long-term thinking?

“There are some clubs who were like: ‘We need someone in quickly, who’s available? Let’s get someone in.’

“Those types of players are rarely a good long-term fit and can’t really play the right type of football.

“He’s been there a year. He hasn’t managed to establish himself in any way and Conte clearly doesn’t fancy him. He has to accept it’s time to move on.”

Leeds

Rodon, who has 22 caps for Wales, signed for Tottenham on deadline day last October (2020) for a reported potential £15million fee.

The north London club handed the defender a five-year contract.
