‘I am proud’ – Koeman delivers message to Everton fans after first year in charge

By Danny Wright

Ronald Koeman has insisted that he is “proud” to be the manager of Everton as he celebrated his first full year in charge at Goodison Park.

The experienced Dutchman took the reins from Roberto Martinez in June 2016 and has taken the Toffees to Europa League qualification in his first season.

Everton’s seventh-placed finish in the Premier League vastly improved on the bottom-half finish that was achieved by Martinez in his final term on the blue half of Merseyside last year.

Koeman, 54, took to his personal Instagram account on Wednesday to sent a message to the Toffees supporters.

“On this day in 2016, I became Everton manager. The year flew by. I am proud to be here,” he said.

Big things are expected from Everton this summer, as they are looking to build on the success achieved in the 2016/17 campaign.

The futures of Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku could have a massive influence on what happens to the Toffees in the upcoming season, but it looks as though Koeman is on the verge of making his first summer signing with the Sun reporting that Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford has agreed personal terms ahead of a stuning £30million move.

The fixture list for the upcoming Premier League was released on Wednesday – and hasn’t been kind to the Merseyside club.

Everton open the season against Stoke, but then have clashes with Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City all in their first five games.
