Ronny Deila delivers verdict on Celtic performances this season

By Matt Farr

Ex-Celtic managers Ronny Deila insists he deserves some of the credit for the team’s remarkable season.

Deila led Celtic to two Scottish Premiership titles and one League Cup crown, before being dismissed as manager last summer.

Rodgers was appointed as his successor, but looks firmly on course to achieve what Deila couldn’t, and win the Scottish treble.

Celtic have remained unbeaten in domestic competitions since Rodgers took charge at Parkhead, while they have established an incredible 25-point lead at the top of the league table.

However, Deila insists he does not envy Rodgers or the club’s current form, boasting that he too had a role to play in their current success.

He told the Daily Record: “I read that I should feel cheated because of what Celtic have done with the same players this season. Why should I feel cheated?

“I feel a sense of ownership about this team that I helped create who are now absolutely the best team in Scotland right now.

“I hold no grudges against him [Rodgers] or anyone. I am proud I have been a part of it. I created things at Celtic and they are now reaping the rewards of it.”

Following his departure from the Scottish giants at the end of last season, Deila has had time to reflect on his time at Parkhead.

He is now set to take charge of Norwegian outfit Valerenga for the new season, where he will hope to translate much of his past work into the new role.

The new season in Norway begins this weekend, with Deila’s side taking on Viking in their opening fixture.

Celtic, meanwhile, are next in action against St. Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

In other Celtic news, back from the brink, this player now holds the key to Celtic treble push.
